Welcome Laura Nehs, LMT specializing in Gua Sha.
Laura Nehs, LMT, graduated from the East-West Healing Arts Institute in 2017. Here she gained a vast knowledge of various chronic pain disorders and the experience to treat them. Some of the modalities that Laura may use include deep tissue massage, trigger point work, acupressure, and Gua Sha.
Gua sha is an ancient healing technique used by many clinicians of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In this procedure, a lubricating medium, such as massage oil, is applied to the skin of the area to be treated. A smooth-edged instrument is used by the practitioner to apply short or long strokes on the skin, typically in the area of pain or on the back parallel to the spine. This stroking motion creates raised redness (petechiae) or bruising (ecchymosis).
While gua sha is most commonly used to treat pain, it can also be utilized by Traditional Chinese massage practitioners to address conditions such as asthma, bronchitis, colds, fibromyalgia, strains, sprains, and muscle spasms.
Laura also has a lot of passion for prenatal massage. She has the ability to work well with mothers-to-be and does a great job providing a relaxing and therapeutic experience.
As a “problem solver”, Laura brings a wide variety of modalities to the table and utilizes multiple techniques to find the treatment plan that is suitable to each individual. Her belief that “every body is different” produces a massage session that is developed for the unique needs of the patient.
Laura is currently working to continue her education to become a certified Gua Sha practitioner, as well as taking classes in Orthopedic Massage and to become a Doula.
Laura is available Mondays 9-7, Thursdays 4-7, Fridays 9-7, and Saturdays 10-3. To book an appointment with Laura click here!
